This year, we took an important step by updating the packaging for our 200 ml children's juices, switching to Tetra Brik® Aseptic 200 Slim Leaf packaging. Although the volume is familiar to consumers, the packaging itself has undergone changes, both in terms of technology and functionality. This is not a new format, but an improved solution that combines convenience for children, production efficiency, and a modern approach to design. The updated packaging is unique for the Ukrainian market, and Galitsia-Trade has become the first Ukrainian juice producer to implement it in its own production.
The new packaging significantly increases production efficiency: whereas previously the line produced about 7,500 units of finished product per hour, production volume has now increased to 24,000 units per hour. And thanks to the interesting shape of the side edges, it is more convenient for children's hands.
A NEW GENERATION OF ASEPTIC PACKAGING
Tetra Pak® aseptic packaging consists of several layers of materials, each of which performs an important function. Cardboard is the base — it provides shape, strength, and ease of use.
The polymer layers are responsible for sealing and moisture protection, and the barrier layer is traditionally made of aluminum foil, which keeps the product safe and fresh for a long time. However, the cardboard packaging industry is actively looking for environmentally friendly alternatives to aluminum, and Tetra Pak has made a fundamental choice in favor of paper rather than plastic. A paper-based barrier combined with plant-based polymer materials increases the proportion of renewable components in the packaging structure to 90%! This reduces the carbon footprint by about a third without compromising the reliability or shelf life of the product.
The paper, like the rest of the cardboard used in Tetra Pak packaging, comes from FSC™-certified forests and other controlled sources. The paper-based barrier has an ultra-thin metallized coating at the nano level, which, in combination with other layers, effectively protects the juice from oxygen, light, moisture, and bacteria. This means that the product remains as safe as it would be in packaging with a traditional aluminum layer, and the packaging itself is fully recyclable. In addition, the new packaging has been certified as Carbon Neutral by the international organization Carbon Trust™, confirming its carbon neutrality and compliance with global sustainability standards.
DESIGN
The design of Galicia and Svitanok children's juices has not undergone radical changes — it remains recognizable, but has become brighter, friendlier, and more emotional. Additional panels highlight the brands on the shelf and complement them with interesting messages for consumers. For example, each Galicia children's juice has its own hero — a character created by the brand with its own story. Thanks to the additional side panels, there is now space to show the heroes up close and tell more about them — who they are, what they are like, and what they are passionate about. From now on, the brand speaks directly to the child, who now makes their own choices. They choose not only the taste, but can also feel sympathy for it or recognize themselves in its characteristics.
The Svitanok brand promotes the idea of little dreamers — children who discover the world every day and strive to make their first dreams come true. This is the brand's philosophy, embodied even in the short phrase on the packaging — “for little dreamers.”
For the Galicia Baby series, communication is shifted to an adult audience: personalized messages for parents have appeared on the packaging — warm, sincere, about love and care. Galicia Baby products are created with the same tenderness and responsibility with which parents care for their children. That is why a natural, sincere connection arises between the brand and parents — after all, both sides speak the same language: the language of love and care.
Today, the updated packaging for Galicia-Trade juices is gradually appearing on the shelves of stores and retail chains. The new packaging is not just a change in shape or design, but another step towards sustainable development. Together with our partners in the field of packaging technologies, we are implementing solutions that combine care for the environment, product quality, and consumer comfort. Brands “speak” to their audience through the details, messages, colors, and emotions embedded in the packaging.
